Opera Integra was founded by Brian Galloway in 1971 as the Addison Opera Workshop. It continues now as a self-financing group rehearsing on Thursdays 6.30pm to 9.30pm during term time at Colville School, Kensington, W11.

The group caters both for singers who want the challenges of major operatic roles and for less skilled singers who enjoy the challenges of opera choruses. Opera Integra can provide valuable experience for singers at the start of their professional careers and for those who enjoy singing as a creative pastime.

Former members have taken up concert and recital work and have gone on to work at Covent Garden, Glyndebourne, English National Opera and other British and European companies.

Opera Integra also provides experience for singers who have sung in choral societies and would like to venture into the world of opera. Opera choruses are, on the whole, less technically difficult than much oratorio work; the difficulty, and the fun, is in combining singing with movement and acting. Because there is ample time for rehearsal, sight singing ability is not essential, though the ability to learn a part by heart is. Chorus singers are encouraged to progress to solo roles and there is no distinction made between soloists and chorus members.

The repertoire is wide-ranging but the choice of opera is determined by the number and ability of its members. Performances are staged and, whenever possible, sung in English. There are also concerts of operatic excerpts, which provide an opportunity for members to participate in ensembles.

The group is a member of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).
